Chevy did "Like a Rock" commercials for the Astro.

"The only truck tough enough to handle childhood."

I'm still saying "Like a Rock" was the best ad campaign Chevy ever did for their trucks.

I can't believe they sold these thing for 20 years without much modification at all.

I have an unhealthy love for Chevy Astros and GMC Safaris. We have 3 at work and they are the toughest and most versatile vans Ive ever used. The AWD systems that were optional were awesome too

I didn't live in the U.S. until 2005, so I never saw these on TV, but I have to say the several thousand commercials they made with this song are very good at pulling at your heartstrings. These days it seems like a bygone era even if it was only 15-20 years ago.

I'm kinda partial to them as well.

Damn thing is tough as nails, even if it has seen better days in the looks department. I wish mine was AWD though.

My brother has an Astro. He loves it. He pulls his camper trailer with it, and has carried that rig all the way across the country and back.

It seems everyone that's owned one has loved it.

I'm starting to like mine again now that its ailments have been cured.

Never knew that the Astro was part of the Like a Rock campaign.

I'd totally drive an Astro or Safari. I know people that had them and beat the shit out of them, and they took it with no complaints. It's essentially an S10 Van.

I haven't been nice to mine (it's may or may not been airborne a couple times) and it keeps chugging.

Wow, I actually remember seeing that first commercial. I used to be kind of envious of kids whose families had Astros, which is understandable when you realize that we had a Lumina APV.

Oddly, ours was reliable apart from the windshield wipers, but still, it was a dustbuster.

I don't know if you have ever seen this, it isn't an Astro, but it's in your families fleet. Well another generation of it is.

It was by far the best ad campaign they ever did. Fun fact: Bob Segar tried to sell the song to Ford first, but they didn't want it.

Oh did they miss gold.

Really it's the video over the song that makes the commercials great though.

The combo of the video and song just worked so well.
